Easy to use: After installation, XModGames scans your device for installed games and shows you a list of the mods available, including a comprehensive description, any bugs and compatibility notes, as well as a mod history, enabling you to match the mod to the version of the game you’re currently running. Installing a mod is a straightforward process as well, involving only a quick download of just a few seconds and then a swift installation.

Root tool included: If your device isn’t rooted, you can use the built-in rooting feature to install KingRoot and grab a 2.6MB Rooting Guide to get started.

Great support: The app includes a Write To Us feature (available through Settings), which enables you to contact the developers, who promise to respond as fast as possible to your message and try to solve your problem.

Cons

Crashes fairly often: While trying out XModGames on our Nexus 7 tablet, the app crashed several times, mostly at random.

Guide bug: In the app’s Settings tab, there is a detailed XMG guide; but whenever we tried to open it, the game crashed. To make matters worse, the FAQ section also crashed when we tapped on it.

Inaccessible: This app isn’t for everyone — it has to be downloaded from a third-party source, and you have to root your device before you can apply mods to your installed games.

Bottom Line

Crashes and tricky installation aside, XModGames can add a special flavor to your favorite games by tempering the gameplay, and can also help you bypass the limitations that some developers have built into their titles to make you play more or spend money on in-app purchases. If you’re just a casual gamer, though, rooting your device just to install this app isn’t recommended.
