Free Spider Solitaire

Free Spider Solitaire offers five different versions of Spider, the popular solitaire variant played with two or more decks of cards. This bundle stands out from other free Spider games by virtue of an attractive, up-to-date interface, customizable cards and backgrounds, and a Help file that provides rules, tips, and odds. You can play Rouge et Noir, Simple Simon, and One Suit, Two Suits, or Four Suits Spider.

Pros

Score and time: Free Spider Solitaire’s expanding (and optional) Ribbon-style toolbar also keeps score and time. The toolbar also let us customize card decks and change the card table green background.

Rules and ratings: We chose Rouge et Noir on the Select a Solitaire dialog, which displayed the game’s layout and factors like Game Time (Long), Difficulty Level (Hard), and our chance of winning (2%). More game info can be found in the Help file.

Help and more: Program data, rules of play, object of the game, and other information (including Hints and Tips) are a few clicks away under Help.

Cons

Email address: A Web page asks for your email address to complete the installation process, but you don’t need to provide it or otherwise register to use this freeware. Don’t be surprised to receive “special offers” (aka spam) if you submit your email address.

Bottom Line

Free Spider Solitaire is an attractive program with helpful features and extras. It’s a great introduction to this popular style of solitaire that’s also challenging enough for experienced players.
